Despicable Me 4

(2024)

For the first time in seven years, Gru, the world’s favorite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for a gut-busting, game-changing, action-packed new chapter of Minions mayhem and family mischief in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4.

Following the summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now enters a new era as Gru (Oscar® nominee Steve Carrell) and his family are forced to join the witness protection program and go into hiding in the most cringe place on Earth: the suburbs.

Gru, as an AVL agent, successfully captured his childhood nemesis, Maxime Le Mal (comedy icon Will Ferrell) at their high school reunion. But now, Maxime has escaped from prison and he and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara) are determined to settle the score with Gru once and for all.

On the run, Gru and his family go undercover as The Cunninghams in the picturesque town of Mayflower, where Gru pretends to be a solar panel salesman, as Lucy (Oscar® nominee Kristen Wiig) and their girls —Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan)— try to adjust to their new lives and bond with their new socialite neighbors: Patsy (Chloe Fineman; SNL) and Perry (Emmy winner Stephen Colbert) Prescott. Meanwhile, Gru attempts to win the affection of his and Lucy’s new infant son, Gru Jr., who’s way more interested in tormenting his dad instead.

But when the Prescotts’ tween daughter, Poppy (Bullet Train’s Joey King), an aspiring supervillain with serious rizz, clocks Gru’s true identity and blackmails Gru into helping her with a heist at Gru’s alma mater, it will lead Maxime right to Gru’s door – and to his son.

Packed with non-stop action and fizzing with Illumination’s signature subversive humor, Despicable Me 4 is directed by a co-creator of the Minions, Oscar® nominee Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2, The Secret Life of Pets), and is produced by Illumination’s visionary founder and CEO Chris Meledandri. The film is co-directed by Patrick Delage (animation director Sing 2 and The Secret Life of Pets 2). The screenplay is by the Emmy winning creator of White Lotus, Mike White, and the veteran writer of every Despicable Me film, Ken Daurio.
